Organization to Watch

OnlyUp: Helping Nonprofits Support Their Young Employees

OnlyUp is a start-up organization that helps nonprofits create viable opportunities for growth and leadership for their millennial employees. While the conversation about what young people look for in a job is growing, there is often a lag in implementing policies and practices that take advantage of the skills and experiences of the next generation of leaders.

OnlyUp is looking to help Philadelphia nonprofits in the following ways:

  • discussing the needs of younger employees and the organization's desire to attract young employees;
  • examining any barriers or challenges in recruiting and retaining young employees;
  • creating a tangible plan to keep and motivate young employees.

OnlyUp is offering these services pro bono to a few organizations and welcomes feedback on the process. If you are interested please email PYNL member Deepa Vasudevan. You can also visit OnlyUp's website to learn more.

The Census is Coming! Participate in the Philly Counts Campaign

April 1, 2010 is US Census Day! Because an accurate and complete census count is vitally important to our region's access to federal resources, the City of Philadelphia, through the new Philly Counts campaign, is mobilizing NOW to ensure that all residents participate. The Mayor's Office has organized Complete Count Committees - small groups of leaders around the city - to help spread the word about the census. The Young Professionals Complete Count Committee (YPCCC) was formed to help increase the number of completed census forms returned by young professionals. Would you like to join this committee and help get young professionals engaged in this effort?

Come to the next YPCCC meeting to hear an overview of why the census is important, what it means to young professionals and why they're sometimes hard to count, the Philly Counts structure, and our strategy to issue a call to action to inspire each young professionals organization to participate.

  • Date: Thursday, December 3
  • Time: 5:30pm - 7pm
  • Location: the Mayor's Reception Room (2nd floor) at Philadelphia City Hall

Questions? Email YPCCC member and PYNL board member Naomi Christine Leapheart.
