Each year, PYNL accepts new members onto our Board of Organizers. The Board of Organizers is the 15-member body responsible for planning and overseeing all PYNL activities, as well as stratagizing to ensure the sustainablilty and growth of the organization.

Each spring, PYNL seeks applications from individuals committed to the non profit sector to join our Board of Organizers. If you work, volunteer, or have a strong interest in nonprofits, we encourage you to get involved.

PYNL Board members serve three-year terms and are responsible for attending our seven annual meetings, as well as serving on at least one committee. Prospective Board Members apply to PYNL in the spring of each year. Applicants are evaluated and decided upon at PYNL's July Board meeting, and selected Board Members begin their term in September.

Working on the PYNL Board is an exciting way to impliment your non-profit leadership skills, meet similarly passionate people, and be a part of an exciting young organization.

PYNL Board of Organizers :: Board Member Job Description

All PYNL Board Members must:

  • Have passion for the mission and share the core values of PYNL.
  • Commit to all the job responsibilities detailed below.
  • Be willing and able to serve as a spokesperson for PYNL and readily share information about PYNL's mission and programs with others.
  • Serve as PYNL's "eyes and ears" by sharing with PYNL any relevant information learned out in the community.
  • Commit to decision-making by consensus of the Board; build collegial working relationships with other PYNL Board/Committee members that contribute to consensus.
  • Vocalize concerns about the work of PYNL and be willing to listen to the concerns of others.
  • Be willing to take on leadership roles within PYNL.
  • Have fun!

PYNL Board Members:

  • Serve one 3-year (three consecutive years) term.
  • Attend all 6 board meetings per year. Board members who miss 4 or more meetings may be removed from the Board.
  • Attend committee meetings on off-months when the Board does not meet and attend additional meetings as requested.
  • Prepare for each Board/Committee meeting as requested (for example, reviewing agendas, reading reports, etc.).
  • Serve on at least one committee. We recommend that Board members serve on a maximum of two committees.
  • Ensure that all their committee work is completed thoroughly and on time.
  • Regularly attend PYNL programs, helping out with events as required, and helping spread the word about PYNL events to colleagues, family and friends.
    Agree to the following time commitment:
       1. Attend at least 4 of the 6 Annual Board Meetings
       2. Attend committee meetings as needed
       3. Attend at least one PYNL event during the year
       4. Average 8 hours of PYNL-related work per month
  • Recruit new Board members
  • Decide on removing people from the Board
  • Perform other tasks as required.
